Breathe new life with AIR/METAL

“YOUR OUTER LIFE REFLECTS, THE QUALITY OF YOUR QI. WHEN YOU GLOW INSIDE , THE WHOLE WORLD SHINES.” - Robert Peng

Has anyone ever told you to sit up and breathe? When we feel good and confident in life we feel more aligned, more able to stand up and be counted, but if we are feeling low and despressed we tend to cave in literally and physically. We feel the need to protect our body and see people walking around all the time hunched in.

The lungs are the organ connected with our feeling of safety, support, and strength. If we stop breathing we are in trouble, did you know we take around 20,000 breaths per day?! I know, isn’t that amazing, and we do this without even thinking about it. Our lungs are just working for us every day, so what would happen if we consciously started working with our lungs? A healthy set of lungs supplies every part of our body with oxygen and it ensures that our immune system functions in an optimal way and contributes to our skin being radiant and clear.

The lungs and the large Intestine belong to the element of air/metal in Traditional Chinese Medicine or Taoist Medicine. The element of metal is only useful when it is soft because in this format we can shape it into something useful. So our lungs need to be open, conscious breathing can really help with softening and expanding the lungs.

When the Lungs are not in good shape we experience of myriad of suppressed emotions in the chest. The Lungs are associated with the emotions of grief and sadness, we have difficulty in letting go and forgiving self or others and not being able to be in the present moment. Do you find that sometimes you sabotage yourself or blame yourself and become very self critical? These are all signs that the Lungs need some attention and we need to work with positive emotions, positive movement and positive breath to overcome the negativity.

By carry heavy emotions and stagnant feelings from the past, it’s like carrying around old suitcases that no longer serve us - why do we do this? Especially when it is from stepping towards living a happier, more fulfilling life. By working with the Qi Gong breathing and movement exercises for clearing the lungs of stagnant old energy we are unlocking the key within us to replace the grief and sadness, the procrastination and control with the emotions of courage, confidence, forgiveness, gentleness, and abundance.

Now which one sounds better to you? I know which one i would prefer. Once we start realising that we are an alchemist who can work with the body in this way and start applying techniques to help ourselves and help the organs that work for us each and everyday then we know from experience that we don’t have to sit in the negativity or stagnant in emotions that no longer serve us. I know it’s not easy to start with but as we start moving towards a healthier, happier, more balanced way of living, i guarantee you wouldn’t want to move back to the more debilitating place like before.
